Pick up new skills – 2023

I started boxing in 2012 but never really stuck to it. So what makes me consistent this time round? I put on weight during covid and after being 30, I tried everything and failed to lose weight. I’ve been teaching people to lose weight while I struggle to skip eating dessert after every meal. I got sick and tired of being sick, I started watching boxing on Instagram that had free content and started doing it again. 

Fast forward, I quit my full time job as a front desk manager in 2023 which was a lot of stress because I was the only full time employee at the front desk. I joined a boxing gym which I always wanted to be part of because of how authentic this boxing gym is. The boxing gym tagline is “real boxing real people”. Also, I have always been a huge fan of this boxing gym owner, Ridhwan who is a former pro boxer from Singapore. I knew if I ever want to get serious about learning boxing it would be with his gym.

May 2023

I started at the end of May 2023. As you can see in the image on the left, I weigh 53kg (117 lb). This sounds light to most people but I am only 4’11 in height. I have never been this heavy my whole life. Imagine how frustrated I feel ! Now I know exactly how people feel when they put on weight. I never had that issue before. I was always small and light, back in school I ran track and field. 

Here is what I do in boxing and what I eat daily to lose weight. Yes I did change how I eat too. Like the saying you can’t outrun a bad diet. Funny how I am a personal trainer but somehow I let myself off the hook. Anyways, this is basically what I do weekly for a full 6 months consistently. 

Boxing and bodyweight training

Monday: 60min of boxing

Tuesday : 60min of boxing

Wednesday : 60min of boxing

Thursday : 90min of boxing

Friday : 60min of boxing

Saturday : 90min of boxing

Sunday : Bodyweight training and deep stretch

The boxing class is either 45 min or 60 minutes. Sometimes I would go for 2 45 minute classes. 

General list of food I eat for whole day

NUTRITION

Breakfast :
2 whole eggs scrambled cooked with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
Small bowl of roll oats with cinnamon and blueberry or honey

Lunch :
Grill Chicken or pan fry with coconut oil chicken breast/ chicken thigh/ basmati rice or baked potatoes/ basmati rice

Snack :
Greek yogurt / almond / dark chocolate / protein shake

Dinner :
Any white fish, stir fry vegetable or steam vegetables

Here is what I suggest you do with all your proteins, please add in seasoning, garlic or onions. You can always swap everything above with other healthier choices.
